2016
We started because the plants we bought kept dying
Most houseplants are grown fast in Dutch glasshouses, shipped in a warm lorry and sold within a week. They look perfect and then collapse in an ordinary room. We buy plugs and grow them on slowly in our own light, so what leaves here is already used to it.

How a plant gets here

Plugs
We buy small, from three growers we have visited, and never from a middleman who cannot name the nursery.

Four months
They grow on in our glasshouse, in British light, with the heating off from April.

Hardened
A fortnight in an unheated room before they are listed, which is where the weak ones show.

Packed
In paper, with a care card written for the room you said you were buying for.
