A video call is a fine way to review a document. It is a poor way to find out what someone is actually worried about.
The things that change a plan — an illness nobody mentions, a child who will need help, a partner who wants out — tend to come up sideways, in the pause after the formal part of the meeting has finished.
So we keep the first meeting in a room, and we do not book anything else for the hour afterwards.
