From Monday 7 September we will be taking on new adult NHS patients again. This notice goes up here and on the front door on Fore Street at the same time, so that nobody hears about it second-hand.
Who can join
Any adult can join while places last. You do not need to live in a particular part of Exeter, and you do not need to have seen a dentist recently. If it has been years, you are in good company, and nobody here will make a thing of it.
Children can join the NHS list at any time, as they always can. If you are registering yourself, bring your children’s details too and we will add them at the same time.
How many places
We expect to take on around two hundred and fifty adults this time. The number comes from how many new-patient check-ups our clinicians can fit into the following three months without pushing existing patients’ appointments back, which is the thing we are least willing to do.
When the places have gone, the list closes again, and we will say so here and on the door the same day.
How to join
- Ring reception on 01392 555 0146 from 08:30 on Monday 7 September, or call in at the front desk.
- We will need your name, date of birth, address and a contact number. Please keep any medical details for the phone or your appointment rather than email.
- You will be booked a first check-up within twelve weeks. It is longer than a routine appointment, so there is time to talk.
Please ring or call in rather than emailing to join. Places go in the order people speak to us, and we would rather nobody lost one because a message sat in the inbox.
Why there is no waiting list
We are asked this more than anything else. A waiting list sounds fairer than opening and closing, but in practice lists grow far faster than they move, and people wait for years believing they are nearly at the top. Opening for a set number of places, and saying so plainly when they are gone, is less comfortable, but it is honest.
If you miss it
The list opens a few times a year. If it has closed by the time you ring, we can still see you privately, with the price in writing before anything starts. Emergency slots are held back every morning for anyone in pain. The next opening will be announced here and on the door.
