The market

One stall, three farms, a refrigerated van

We buy from the people who grow it, sell it at a price with the kilo written next to it, and deliver it ourselves.

How we buy

What is good this week, not what is on a list

A supermarket decides in January what it will sell in June and makes the growing fit. We buy on Monday what came out of the ground on Sunday, which is why the apple variety changes and why strawberries disappear in October.

  • Three farms within twenty miles
  • Bread from one bakery, baked the morning of delivery
  • Nothing flown in to keep a shelf full

On price

We are not cheaper than a supermarket on everything and we will not pretend to be. We are cheaper on vegetables, about the same on dry goods, and dearer on dairy, which is what happens when the farm is paid properly. Every shelf shows a price per kilo so you can check rather than take our word for it.
