Thirty-two rooms and suites, a restaurant that cooks with what the valley grows, a small spa, and a jetty where the day starts with coffee and ends with the light going pink on the peaks.

Every room faces the lake, the ridge or the pines, and none faces the car park. Beds are made with linen from a mill in the valley, and the windows open.

The menu changes with the week’s deliveries: trout from the lake, lamb from the Reyes ranch, huckleberries in August, and bread baked in the kitchen before dawn.

Onto the Trail
Forty miles of marked trails start at the gate. The front desk lends maps, poles and bear spray, and knows which routes are still under snow.
Quiet by Design
No televisions in the suites, no music on the terrace, and a spa that takes six guests at a time. Children are welcome everywhere except the sauna.
