The bear is wider than a car and there is not a single curve in it. Every part of the face — the ears, the muzzle, the eyes that follow you down the street — is a triangle of flat colour, orange against blue, pink against green, and the eye draws the curves on its own.
I filled half a sketchbook on that London street trying to work out how it holds together. I think it is the blues: deep at the edges, pale towards the middle, so the face comes forward and the triangles stop reading as a pattern and start reading as fur.
