Carrying colour: a portrait on a yellow wall

He did not want his face in the picture, so the basket became his face. Dyed feathers — pink, yellow, violet and a teal that almost disappears against the sky — piled high enough to hide him from the shoulders up, and a straw hat held low so the frame still has a person in it.

Yellow is the hardest wall to shoot against. It bounces onto everything, and skin turns jaundiced in seconds. With no skin in view, that stopped being a problem and became the point: every colour in the basket is sharper for being on yellow.
