The shop has three hundred colours on one wall, and the writers who come in can name them all by number. What they ask for, mostly, is not colour but pressure: a low-pressure can for outlines, high pressure to fill a wall fast.
I came away with six cans and a new respect for the people who work with them. A spray can gives you no second coat and no blending on the palette. Every colour is a decision you make in the air.
